ASEAN-JAPAN FINE ARTS COLLEGES NETWORK 2015: INDONESIA

INDONESIA

Words can never fully describe moments and moments don’t last. At the end of the day, moments are just a piece of memory in one’s mind and without any reminder of its existence—it can be forgotten.

This piece of writing is nothing but my own personal experience and perspective of this trip, which for me is noted as one of the best experiences in my life so far.

Comparing to my previous trip to Japan, this is without words, way better. I’ve been asked about the trip and my answers have always been the same. “well you know the events were okay but meeting new people is always awesome”.

This time I have met many wonderful people who I could easily get along with. It could be because of the age, or just because we all share one common interest: love for art.

The first friend I've made during this program is Pin, from the Philippines. And then Janina, the one who introduced me to the meme "notice me, senpai". I miss both of them, I miss eating their chocolates and candies in their hotel room and talk.

I miss pretending to be one of the delegates from the Philippines. Not to mention, they have the coolest teachers on earth, Doi and Benjie.

Janina, Myself, and Pin

And Doi reminds me of this hybrid vampire from the Twilight Saga.

Evi if you’re reading this, I want you to know that I love you to bits for making the escape possible. She took us to this local lunch place, Bu Ageng. The food was nice and the price was fair, but the environment was superb to me.

And then to this avocado juice place, Mediterranea restaurant. It's a western food place I suppose. You can find pizza, and other kinds of meal. However, Evi recommended the avocado juice and apple pie. And she had never been so right, the avocado juice was THE BOMB!

Sola and Evi

The next stop was this chocolate place, Chocolate Monggo. Because I consider myself a chocolate person, this place to me is the best place I visited in Jogja.

Last but not least, the gallery called Keren Dan Beken which means Cool and Famous in English.

The escape was way better than seeing the shops because we get to see other parts of Jogja that are located along the small roads  that are mostly covered by graffiti.

Did I mention, we got to ride on a horse carriage?

And then there’s Monica/Diaz, the girl i bully the most. Monica is a nickname that was given to Diaz for she reminds me of my friend named Monica. Diaz cannot stop repeating “Tuan is so cute when he talks!”. But its okay, Diaz I still love you for giving me two minutes of free wifi.

Prima, the guy who named himself on Facebook as Primexcutable, is one of the buddies I talked to the most. He has a great taste in music because he listens to the songs I listen to. And he does song covers on Soundcloud. You're welcome.

Then there's Sola, the guy who is not familiar with a lot of things including Katy Perry, Whatsapp, Airdrop, Soundcloud, Instagram, Justin Bieber and many more. But his fascination for other cultures and how they live their lives is something to look up to. He's also the most popular delegate in the trip, but second to Ari. Every time you see Sola, he's being asked for a photograph.

And ALL THE BUDDIES and DELEGATES! They're all very nice and friendly indeed.

Never forget Mr. Arisumi Mitamura. The most down to earth individual so far.

My ultimate goal had always been to finish school and start working. However, from this trip I’ve realised that what I really want is to travel, meet new people, and explore new places. I’m safe to say this program has changed my perspective, taught me skills, and led me to these amazing people.

am now aspired to visit each and everyone of them in their country at least once.

My Reflection on IFL Practicum

The teaching practicum had always been the most anticipating experience for me since I decided to choose teaching as my major. It was once just a topic that the teachers and seniors talked about. It amazed me that I have come such a long way and successfully made it through. Despite the short time, the teaching practicum has shaped and changed me both inside and outside the classroom, and both for my personal and professional growth. Before the practicum, I was excited of the idea of it because I was one of the top students in class and I had always liked speaking and presenting, which were what I believed teaching would be like. In no denial, I also had my doubts, but the tips I received during the practicum orientation along with my teachers’ reassurances that I would do more than well made me really confident that everything would go smoothly. As I had taken Teaching Methodology class very seriously and understood all of the theories, I could not foresee any problem no...

RUFA-Royal University of Fine Arts

"I heard RUFA's moving" is mostly how most people start their conversation with me lately. Of course I have heard of it, but I have remained silent until now. I know my post has no such power, but I write it for the sake of memory. As a RUFA student, I highly believe that RUFA’s current architecture should be saved because everything about this school has a huge impact on the person I am today. Before entering RUFA, I held a thought that RUFA is a dirty public school with low quality. Not more than a week after entering this school, my perspective had changed 180 degree. I find RUFA the best and most beautiful university you could ever find in Cambodia. To elaborate, you’d think my achievement and ability to create art as today is due to talented professors, seniors and fellow students at RUFA, that is actually true, but not entirely. RUFA is the oldest art school in Cambodia, and this current campus is about 100 years old, it was first created by K...
